In the 64 years since the creation of Fantasy Football, it has become a yearly phenomenon not only at the Paideia School, but across the entire world. With the NFL season starting back up, fantasy enthusiasts at Paideia are excited to watch their favorite teams.
“It’s cool to watch players on your team and create competition with your friends,” says Nishant Sodha ’29.
With the return of certain key players like Joe Burrow and Malik Nabers, fantasy managers will be faced with an interesting challenge to field a competitive roster. Lions running back Jahmyrr Gibbs and Falcons running back Bijan Robinson are projected to be at the top of nearly every draft board, an interesting trend to keep an eye on for this upcoming season, especially with an overall thinner running back group.
“Go with strong running backs first and follow with reliable wide receivers,” Tom Dougherty ’28 says, “Every quarterback gets points, so don’t choose one early.”
One of the defining factors of the fantasy football cycle is the dreading of the end-of-season punishment. From milk miles to public humiliation rituals, fantasy participants have to draft well and be smart to avoid losing their league. Will Rose ’29 says, “You don’t worry about winning in fantasy, you worry about not placing last.”
