The Paideia Varsity Volleyball team has had a difficult start to their season due to injuries that have taken out six players, resulting in a record of 5-9. However, their spirits remain high as they continue to train and cheer each other on. Varsity Co-captain Stella Roumanis ’24 shared her method for keeping the team motivated, saying they try to “just be positive even when losing.”
The injuries are also pushing underclassmen toward the spotlight. Roumanis is especially proud of Grace Kim ’26 and Reeves Freeman ’26 , saying, “ [They] are very consistent and go-to players who everyone knows they can trust. I’m really proud of how they’ve stepped up even though they are underclassmen.”
This season is also particularly important to many, as there are seven seniors. Kate Banks ’24 adds that her goal for the season is to “Have a fun and memorable senior season and make sure everyone else has a great season too!”
Despite the challenges, the team is not ready to give up. Hollis Wilson ’27 says, “Our team is getting better with every point and every game we play!”
In the past few weeks the volleyball team has shown this improvement in their games. They have won against Atlanta Classical Academy, Mt. Pisgah and St. Francis. This year’s volleyball senior night is Sept. 27 in the main gym. The ceremony begins at 6:45 PM and the game against Decatur High school starts at 7 PM.
