Last school year, Paideia soccer coaches announced they were planning a trip to Spain for the Paideia’s boys and girls soccer teams. At the start of this school year, it was said to have been cancelled because of one word: “miscommunication.”
“The goal was one to create bonding opportunities for the team and the program. This trip was going to add another layer to that, to give students a sense of global soccer and appreciation for global culture,” explained boys varsity soccer coach David Robinson Dwyer. The two teams were going to visit different areas in Spain and have the opportunity to create personal connections with the people and soccer players in those areas. Girls coach Brittany Jones is currently on leave this semester, but she and Dwyer have been working together on planning a replacement trip due to the cancellation. However, a new international trip is currently not in the works according to Dwyer. He summed up the cancellation in one word, and that was “miscommunication” between different departments, causing this shift in the soccer team trip plans.
Dwyer expressed how hard he and Jones worked on curating this trip and how there was definitely disappointment from the cancellation. He also explained how he understood that there would be disappointment from the players and parents because of the cancellation, but he still hopes to have a great season. “I always hope to win, and for both teams to continue to build a sense of soccer community,” he explained.
