On Nov. 7, the Paideia Varsity swim team dove their way into Wesleyan High School for their first swim meet of the season. After a successful 2023 season, pressure was high for the first meet of the new season. At the meet, the team made a strong effort against larger teams such as Wesleyan and Riverwood, coming in third. Seniors Wade Tolbert and Audrey Ferguson, and freshman Alex Cooksy qualified for the 2025 GHSA Swimming and Diving Championships with their efficient performances.
A week later, the team traveled to St. Francis High School for another eventful meet. “People are swimming hard,” said Paideia swim coach Tom Jurczak. “We’re doing well. Considering the challenges we’re having concerning pool time, the efforts at meets have been outstanding.”
Due to complications with the pool heater at the Agnes Scott College Athletic Center, the team is currently training out of the water. Paideia scored 24 points over St. Francis, beating the opposing team in their water. Junior Daniela Elias-da Silva achieved state-qualifying times in the 50m and 100m free events, further emphasizing Paideia’s powerful presence in the meet.
