The name Sean “Diddy” Combs has been in the headlines in recent weeks because of shocking allegations that have been following him for years. Combs is awaiting trial for multiple sex trafficking charges and is currently in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after he pleaded not guilty to all of his federal charges.
Combs is being accused of inviting various superstars to his properties across the globe, including locations in Saint-Tropez, Ibiza, Miami, Morocco, and Los Angeles. At these parties, Combs would allegedly encourage the drugging of his invitees, and they would end up participating in filmed “freak-offs,” during which the celebrities would engage in sexual actions with each other and prostitutes.
With this shocking news also comes many controversial opinions on the matter. “These could all be misconceptions about Diddy. He has kids, and I don’t think he would ever purposely do something like this,” Noah Armour ’25 says.
Contradicting this standpoint, Declan Johnston ’25 criticizes Diddy’s abuse of power, saying, “The Diddy parties and the freak-offs were clear statements from Diddy that he could get away with whatever he wanted because of his influence in Hollywood.”
Combs had everything going for him: having a successful rap and producing career, being a movie star, and an all-around superstar persona who was given the title of the “King of New York.” Combs’s suspicious activities date back to 2001 in a case where Thalia Graves, the girlfriend of one of his employees, alleged that she was raped by Diddy and his bodyguard. It was brought to the media following a televised case of the alleged assault.
Since then, Combs’ involvement in similar crimes has increasingly reached public audiences. It has even been speculated that Combs had a heavy influence on the murder of Tupac Amaru Shakur in 1996, and Shakur’s team has recently begun researching this case more heavily. New information about this topic is expected to come out in the near future.
