The Paideia girls volleyball team began a new season on Aug. 13, losing their first game to King’s Ridge Christian School. Despite the loss, coaches understand the difficulty of teamwork after losing eight seniors, and many freshmen who joined have earned the respect of team veterans already. “I came into the year feeling really optimistic because even though we lost a lot of seniors last year, the girls coming in were really good and the chemistry was there,” varsity captain Nevaeh Johnson ‘25 says.
Despite losing the first game, none of the players felt disappointed or upset, but instead were left determined to improve and hopeful for the future. As varsity player Fifi Bergstresser ‘28 reflects, “The season started off on a rough patch because we lost our first game, but I do have confidence that we can make up for that in the future.” Later their efforts paid off with a landmark victory against the volleyball team’s longtime rival, Decatur High School.
Varsity coach Arton Agolli admits that all these changes made the beginning of the season a bit difficult. After watching the freshman play, though, he had confidence in their skill. “The youngsters have a lot of potential,” he says.
The next volleyball games for junior varsity and varsity will occur on Sept. 23, against Atlanta International School.
