Throughout his campaign, former President Trump made consistent threats to revoke certain immigration rights and create a deportation scheme at his rallies. Trump made dubious comments about Haitians and immigration in general, and after a successful campaign, many immigrants feel apprehensive about the future.
Trump’s re-election may potentially lead to immigrant isolation, including deportation camps, separation of families at the border, limited access to education and healthcare and the end of asylum as well as birthright citizenship. Stephen Miller, one of Trump’s advisors, has publicly announced that they’re currently discussing these issues, and are considering passing several acts in order to commence these transactions.
In order for Trump to successfully pass his immigration legislation, he would need to change or bend the Constitution, get the approval of Congress and convince the military, federal agents and police to enforce these new laws. Many organizations, such as the LULAC and ACLU, have declared they will do their best to keep justice and fairness in the immigration process. Trump might not triumph against opposing associations, but until the presidency. change the future remains unclear.
