Every February, millions of viewers tune in to watch the Grammy Awards. This year’s ceremony brought historic wins, memorable performances and many viral moments that left people talking long after the show ended.
An exciting win was Bad Bunny taking home Album of the Year for “Debí Tirar Más Fotos (DBTF).” This was a long-overdue recognition of global music because it marked the first time an all-Spanish album earned the award.
Song of the Year went to Billie Eilish for “Wildflower.” I thought this win was well deserved considering her album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” somehow won no Grammys in 2025.
Also celebrating a big achievement, Olivia Dean won the award for Best New Artist. Her win sparked discussion online and showed how divided audiences can be.
Pop icon Cher made an appearance to present the award for Record of the Year, which went to Kendrick Lamar and SZA for “Luther.”When presenting the award, Cher made a mistake that left everyone laughing and cringing.
The ceremony also included humor and political comments. Host Trevor Noah made several jokes throughout the night aimed at Donald Trump, such as some about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. Celebrities also wore “ICE OUT” pins and used their speeches to talk about immigration and social issues. I, along with many others, thought this was an empowering way for them to use their platforms to speak against these issues.
Of course, performances are always an important component to the Grammys. Tyler, the Creator delivered one of the best ones of the night. Alex Warren also performed, but he had a delay due to his earpiece malfunction. By the end of the song, Warren recovered and ended his performance strongly.
Overall, this year’s Grammys proved that the ceremony is still messy, debated and imperfect, but that’s exactly why people keep watching.
