The result of the presidential election has distressed many. From a political standpoint, many aspects of the next four years are unpredictable. President-elect Donald Trump has already begun to select his nominees for important positions, including the first female Chief of Staff. However, White House moves are not the only thing looking unpredictable in the next four years. How the new administration will affect everyday people is also unpredictable, but in this time it’s important to remain hopeful.
“One thing to be hopeful about is midterm elections.”
One thing to be hopeful about is midterm elections. They will be held in two years, in November 2026. During midterms, the composition of the Senate can be changed, because one-third of Senate seats are up for re-election. Special elections could also be held before midterms if a member of the Senate dies or resigns. Continuing to spread awareness and get out the vote will again be important when midterms approach, as they offer on opportunity to remain hopeful and continue fighting for what you believe is right for our country.
Some students have expressed that continuing to have hope was a coping method for them after the election. Hattie Gegax ’27 said, “Right after Trump won the election I was feeling pretty hopeless, but through talking with my friends and having conversations about hope, I now have a more hopeful outlook.”
