Super Bowl LIX kicked off on Feb. 9, with nearly 130 million people watching. Although most viewers tuned in for the championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, fans of the famous Super Bowl ads tuned in for the cultural phenomena.
Every Super Bowl, companies and celebrities come together to create fascinating and entertaining commercials. The increase in cinematography and popularity in recent years has caused a dramatic increase in production cost, with the average Super Bowl commercial cost increasing from $2.2 million in 2000 to $7 Million in 2025, according to USA Today.
One of the most memorable commercials was Tubi’s “Cowboy Head” ad, which captivated audiences with its quirky storytelling. The ad follows a man born with a cowboy hat for a head, symbolizing his lifelong love for Western movies. Throughout childhood, two boys sporting wizard hat-shaped heads mock him for his unique appearance, representing their love for fantasy. However, as they grow older, they too embrace cowboy hats, illustrating how tastes evolve and how Tubi offers something for everyone. The commercial’s clever storytelling and playful visuals reinforce its central message: no matter your interests, Tubi has a show for you.
This year’s Super Bowl was also surrounded by political controversy, specifically concerning one ad run by Border Patrol. The ad featured cinematic shots of Border Patrol agents patrolling the environment. Many people online have criticized the ad for prominently featuring Latinos, finding it ironic given that Latinos have been primary targets of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Before the Super Bowl, there were rumors spreading that Elon Musk was going to spend nearly $50 million on advertising his DOGE agency at the Super Bowl, but this did not come to pass.
