Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, is retiring from his long lasting music career. In recent interviews, Glover described his current standing in the music industry both as not fulfilling, and that he has zero need to build his music career up anymore.
Throughout his career, Glover has incorporated acting, rapping, singing, writing, stand-up, directing and producing. On May 13, Glover released an album called “Atavista.” Not long after, on July 19 he released his so-called final album, “Bando Stone and The New World.”
In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Glover describes how he wants the album to bring people together and to be part of their identity. Since both “Atavista” and “Bando Stone and The New World” came out over the summer, he wants the album to be a part of people’s memories of what the summer of 2024 was like. Glover expresses not having time to continue his musical legacy as a reason why he’s retiring. He hopes to follow his curiosity through his many talents, and in this case, he has squeezed out all of the musical talent from his system.
Glovers’ goals are endless; once he accomplishes something, he moves on to his next success. “Though I haven’t been listening to him for the longest time, I have built a strong emotional connection with many of his songs and I hate to see him stop producing beautiful music. However, I am also happy that he is going to achieve new heights and hope the best for him in his retirement,” Chandler Kirkland ‘26 says.
